Call for Yell Leader Platform Applications

The Mugdown is developing a platform for students who embody the Aggie spirit and want to run for a 2020-2021 Yell Leader position but may not have the means to mount a successful Yell Leader campaign. 

As students of Texas A&M, we fully support traditions. They bring us together and make A&M truly special. However, we as a student body frequently mistake patterns as traditions. Through this platform, we want A&M’s student body to understand what makes a Yell Leader a Yell Leader: their spirit, their drive, and their ability to bring campus together.  

Is this serious?

Yes, we’re actually serious. While The Mugdown is known for posting funny articles and graphics, our mission statement guides our publication. Our goal is to challenge the thinking of the Texas A&M community. We are organizing this platform to do just that. 

Who is able to apply?

Any student may apply regardless of qualifications, involvement, socio-economic status, demographics, or any other category they may fall into. The only requirement is that applicants must currently be a sophomore or junior.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people who are serious about wanting to be a Yell Leader. They should care about A&M and its traditions. While we will be judging applicants on a number of criteria, our decisions will be guided by the following five values:

Spirit – We want candidates who care about traditions and what they stand for.

Character – We want candidates who are individuals that stand up for what they believe in and who communicate and work well with others.

Commitment – We want candidates who are committed to being the best Yell Leader possible. They must recognize the time and effort required to represent the University and lead its students.

Integrity – We want candidates with a strong moral fiber that are willing to go against the status quo if it means doing what’s right.

Selflessness – We want candidates who will put others first. They are doing this because they want to make A&M a better place for everyone.

What is the application process?

The application process will consist of several rounds. The first round is a written application consisting of a few short essays. We are using this first round to ensure members truly want to be a Yell Leader and are willing to put in the time and effort required. We hope to have our final decisions by the end of the semester.
