Engineer Drops Out to Puruse Olympic Luge Career

After watching the Winter Olympics, Texas A&M University engineering student Todd Snow made the bold decision to drop out of college and pursue a career in Olympic luge. After just a few weeks of practice sliding down the tunnel under the train tracks on Old Main, Snow got invited to begin training with Team USA.

“I figured if I can survive PHYS 207, I can survive hurtling down an icy track at 80 miles per hour,” said Snow. “I didn’t even have to ETAM; they just let me in.”

Despite skepticism about whether Snow could adapt to the dramatic change from engineering student to professional athlete, Snow claims he is very happy with the decision.

“Before, I had an awful advisor and crippling anxiety. Now, I have a personal trainer and a brand deal with Nike,” said Snow. “The competition is way easier too. Instead of trying to outdo 20,000 other engineering students, now it’s basically just the Norwegians.”

Snow says he has no plans to return to engineering anytime soon, and is instead looking forward to the chance to compete at the 2030 Winter Olympic Games.
