Hispanic Studies Department Announces ‘Bad Bunny 101’ Wintermester Course

This week, the Texas A&M Department of Hispanic Studies announced plans to offer a three-week wintermester course covering the music of reggaetón superstar Bad Bunny. This course serves to “prepare the predominately gringo population of Texas A&M University to properly enjoy Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl performance through a critical study of language, musical composition and vibes,” according to its description in the University Course Catalog.

Tenured Spanish professor Valtina Cruz commented on the creation of the course.

“I noticed that the music taste of my white students was severely lacking in swag. When we discussed our favorite artists for an in-class assignment, many students mentioned Ed Sheeran and Benson Boone,” said Cruz. “When it was announced that Bad Bunny would be performing at the Super Bowl, I knew it was the perfect time to introduce them to something a little spicier.”

While full details of the course’s itinerary are still a work in progress, it has been confirmed that the trip will feature a visit to Bad Bunny’s hometown of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, and an entire week will be dedicated to a lecture series entitled “Why Taco Bell is not Cultural Immersion.”

Texas A&M Interim President Tommy Williams has already expressed disapproval of the course’s content.

“We don’t need our students learning to speak Puerto Rican, much less enjoying the music of such an explicit and sinful artist,” said Williams. How can we expect the young, impressionable men and women of Texas A&M to uphold our core values while being seduced by hips that just don’t lie and a sensual Latino accent?”
