Anti-Voter Registration Group Tables on Campus
With November fast approaching, Aggies across campus have been registering to vote, thanks to the work of intrepid volunteers from organizations such as MOVE Texas A&M and Powered by People. There are a few Aggies, however, attempting to discourage voter registration. The Mugdown met with some of these anti-voter registration proponents to highlight their unique mission.
“There are definitely some votes that matter. But there are a lot of votes that will just … ruin everything,” said Maggie Smith, president of the student organization No Votes for Aggies.
No Votes for Aggies has been tabling for weeks, strategically setting up next to crowded walkways and ahead of voter registration tables. Their tables feature pamphlets on the electoral college, political machine and influence of lobbyists in Congress to convince citizens not to waste their time casting a vote that wields no political power anyway.
“We don’t actually believe the stuff in those pamphlets, we just need them to believe it,” said Smith.
When asked how they know who is most in need of their anti-democratic civic education, No Votes for Aggies’ recruitment director, Sam Ankles, said, “Religious and ethnic minorities have been my personal target. If they’re seen wearing merch from the Muslim Students’ Association or the Indian Student Association, I jump at the opportunity to convince them that their vote does not, in fact, matter. This is important work being done here.”
When asked whose votes do matter, the officer team shifted on their feet and unanimously voted to plead the fifth.

For Panty Hopping, nothing feels more liberating than a comforting swim in the waters of Rudder Fountain. Her articles are all written after her refreshing wades in the waters of the many ponds on campus, and the mysterious liquid masquerading as water within these ponds renders her unable to recall writing her articles. She asserts she is not liable for anything written within them, and that the blood, sweat and tears of Aggies long gone that she has absorbed through her swims in the mystical ponds are the lifeblood of her writing. Sure, Panty Hopping might be seen applying to every organization on campus or in the Instagram comments of that girl in your Math 140 class three semesters ago. Still, her true passion lies in swimming in the glorious ponds on campus.
