Aggie Park Evangelists Brace for Anothe Semester of Sharing the Gospel
Aggie Park Prayer Team Leader Izzie McKinley is in her junior year at Texas A&M University. Every Wednesday consists of waking up in her house on Montclair Avenue to the smell of her pumpkin spice candle. After putting on a Parke sweatshirt, McKinley hightails it to Aggie Park to start her first shift of good old evangelizing.
“Sometimes I feel like it is my mission to free other Aggies from the restrictive chains of the Christianphobic, godless desert that is Texas A&M University,” said McKinley.
McKinley leads her team of four every Wednesday morning around Aggie Park, sharing the gospel and asking passersby if they would like to be prayed for. Sometimes, McKinley’s team even scouts out Rudder Plaza as well, setting their sights on particular students they want to meet with.
“If a girl had an Islamic headscarf on or a Catholic vibe about them, we’d go to them first,” said sophomore Becca Lachey. “Next week, we are hoping to finally convert the Mormons!”
Maryam Khan, a junior Mechatronics major and an active member of the Muslim Students Association, was asked about her experience with Aggie Park Evangelists.
“I usually don’t mind them, but last week one of them sat next to me, and when she needed to sneeze, she tried to use my hijab to blow her nose,” said Khan. “I submitted my transfer application to UT Dallas last night.”
When asked about McKinley’s comments about the “Christianphobic, godless desert that is Texas A&M University,” Lachey was quick to agree.
“Honestly, if it wasn’t for Rooftop Christmas, I bet nobody on campus would even know what the true meaning of Christmas was!” said Lachey.
Both Lachey and McKinley are looking forward to restarting their Aggie Park prayer walks as soon as the icy winter weather ends.
