Signs that you or a loved one might be suffering from Battered Aggie Syndrome

Battered Aggie Syndrome is the unfortunate, yet contagious illness that plagues Texas A&M sports fans year after year. Despite continuous heartbreak and an aversion to Mo Bamba, we just can’t stop coming back. It must be something in the air…

The Mugdown Staff has compiled a list of symptoms to raise awareness on this peculiar disease:

Clinging to your March Madness Bracket

Despite a harrowing but predictably disappointing loss by Aggie men’s basketball last week, at least you still have your bracket. Let’s be real — we both know you didn’t pick A&M to make it past the second round. And if you did…wow.

Reposting New Recruits “SIGNED” Posts onto your instagram story

If you do this, you are the worst type of person. That 3 star recruit from East Texas is only one screenshotted notes app post away from recommitting, but by all means, keep saying “HE’S HIM” if that’s what makes you feel better.

Bringing up 2012 as if it just happened

Look, we all miss the days of Johnny Football. We all miss being a team worth a second thought. But at some point, we have to let it go — it’s been over a decade. And yet, some of you are still out here whispering “I hear Manziel has one more year of eligibility…”

Focusing on other TAMU sports

Trap and skeet team? Tennis? Quidditch? Equestrian?? These once-ignored programs have now become the center of your universe. Who cares if you’re the only non-parent in the stands. At least they’re winning. And if anyone asks, yes, you have always been a fan of women’s golf.

Getting really into your intramurals

At this point, intramurals have become an outlet to get all of your Aggie-induced rage out. In a way, it makes you feel way better about the fact that you were never recruited right out of high school. You’re still representing A&M sports, just on a much smaller scale.

Symptoms of Battered Aggie Syndrome are said to flare after the last week of basketball, and peak in the days leading up to the first kickoff.

Remember: the first step is admittance. Maybe this year just isn’t our year.
