Letter to the Editors: We Need a Way to Guarantee First Deck Tickets
After witnessing the ticket pull fiasco of Nov. 18, 2024 and the ongoing debate on whether ticket pull should remain in-person or move online, I am here to propose a solution. We need a way to guarantee first deck tickets for those who would do anything for them. We know many students have the courage and determination to camp outside for days to secure great seats, so what if Texas A&M created an organization for these highly motivated Aggies? Here’s what I’m thinking:
Every day, we will have these Aggies dress up in a silly costume. I’m not sure what it would look like, but waiting in line for days looks silly already, so I don’t think these students would mind it. It would also make them easily recognizable, so that way if you want great seats without waiting in line OR joining this org, you can easily identify members and try to befriend or date them. Every member can pull for themselves plus a date, so that they don’t get lonely during the games, and so they have someone to nervously look at when the cannon goes off, and then ultimately not kiss since they’re not sure if their date is actually interested in them or just the great seats. Also, if you can play an instrument, you should get to go on the field at some point to show off your skills since that sounds fun. They can even try to narrowly avoid each other on the field.
Since this org is all about trying to get great tickets for you and your bros, we should have lots of opportunities for members to hang out with one another. In the mornings, they can have playtime — they might need to wake up a bit early so that it doesn’t interfere with classes — and then they should eat breakfast together and even dinner. They won’t have mandatory friend dinners on Wednesdays or Fridays so that they have time to study.
Speaking of academics, we need to make sure these Aggies aren’t forgetting about their classes. If they skip a class, they should take a little weekend walk and think about what they’ve done while wearing their silly costume. I think it would also be really fun if everyone lived together. It’s like camping in a tent in the ticket pull lines but all year-round! Also since these Aggies are so dedicated to getting great seats, we should parade them around every gameday so that everyone can applaud their dedication. I wouldn’t be opposed to giving them scholarships either. Since they’re right there on first deck, the refs will be able to hear them, so we need to reward these members for yelling loud enough at the refs to make them change their calls.
I’m not sure why A&M hasn’t thought of this sooner, but it desperately needs an org like this as a solution to the awful mess that is ticket pull. By implementing this, there will be hardly any Aggies in line outside the Kyle Field box office, and if ticket pull moves online, the website won’t have as much traffic. My only concern is that the org might be too large for A&M infrastructure and staff to handle. It might be too good of an idea to work, and everyone would join. If anything, it might become the most popular org on campus because who would be stupid enough to camp outside for days for first deck tickets when they could just join an org that guarantees it?
