The Bryan-College Station community is mourning the loss of a beloved local business icon after a fatal shooting early Sunday morning. Gumby, the well-known mascot of the popular pizza shop Gumby’s Pizza, was killed during a violent altercation at his home on Aspen Street. The Bryan Police Department is actively investigating the incident.

The shooting took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. during a party hosted by Gumby at his home residence in Bryan. According to attendees, the party was meant to be a lively post-game gathering. An invitation on public Snapchat stories advised guests to “leave the beef at the door.” Eyewitness accounts say entry was free for women and five dollars for men, and the atmosphere was reported to be celebratory before tensions escalated.

Investigators say that the suspect — described by witnesses as a roughly 40-year-old man wearing “a Pizza Hut uniform and black Air Forces” — entered the party and confronted Gumby in the central living room of his home. The suspect allegedly carried an AA-12 automatic shotgun equipped with an illegal modification switch. Those present at the party reported hearing the suspect declare “No one out pizza’s the hut” before opening fire. The description has led some to believe that the dispute could stem from a local turf war. However, authorities have not confirmed any direct links to corporate rivalry or gang violence.

The Bryan Police Department responded to calls from the scene and confirmed Gumby’s death upon arrival. Investigators discovered drugs on the premises and an autopsy released by the authorities shows traces of several street stimulants, prescription medication and kratom in Gumby’s system at the time of death.

“We are treating this as a targeted act and are investigating all leads to identify and apprehend the suspect,” police chief Michael Reyes said. “We are not, however, ruling out a link to organized crime, and urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.”

The killing has intensified concerns among residents and business owners, marking yet another grim chapter in a series of violent pizza-related incidents. Following the previous loss of Dollar Slice, many in the community are anxious about what this means for the future of pizza as we know it.
