Abbott Delegate Uses Family Meeting Time to Trauma Dump

During a recent family meeting before the MSC Abbott Leadership Conference in Houston, Daisy Gilbert alarmed her Abbott parents and siblings when sharing her family story as she spent the better part of 2 hours trauma-dumping her messy family history.

James Corrigan, an Abbott delegate who initially applied for the conference to learn more about leadership, was especially scarred after hearing Gilbert’s family story.

“My understanding of this conference was that we would focus on learning about ethics and morals to be applied to family relationships and to develop individual values,” Corrigan said. “I don’t see how hearing way too many intimate details about Daisy’s troubled family accomplishes that.”

To Corrigan, it seemed like Gilbert didn’t understand what the point of the family stories was despite being one of the final people to share with her Abbott family.

“Most of us walked the group through our family lineage and talked about lessons instilled in us from our parents and other family members,” Corrigan said. “Daisy didn’t do any of that, instead telling us all about her parent’s broken marriage, her sociopathic sister, various abusive relationships, her creepy felon uncle, and how she was not loved by anyone in her family.”

Corrigan was also concerned about how Gilbert appeared to expect the sharing of her family story to double as a therapy session, despite the lack of qualifications amongst her audience.

“I’m not sure what Daisy was looking to gain from sharing all of these details, but it was clear that she has a lot of unresolved trauma that is deeply affecting her,” Corrigan said. “She needs professional help that our family of moped enthusiasts and Breakaway volunteers simply can’t provide.”

Oversharing aside, Corrigan is excited to spend the next several days forming connections and alliances with fellow members of the Christian Bubble elite during this upcoming conference.
