Professors Petition for Reverse Q Drops

A group of professors have unionized to advocate for a new reverse Q drop process where professors can choose to drop students from their classes.

“I’m sick and tired of the endless emails from students begging for curves or extra credit, and would love the opportunity to drop specific students from the class roster to clear out my inbox,” Adam Cochlan, an aerospace engineering professor and president of the union, said.

On the other side of campus, Bush School lecturer Berta Perez expressed a similar sentiment based on recent experiences with students in her INTA 603 class.

“I’ll have students that skip and sleep through my class, which works for them until finals come around and they start begging for forgiveness when they see their grade,” Perez said. “I’d rather just have the option to cut them loose now to save myself the trouble of failing them later.”

While some may say that reverse Q dropping is unethical for professors, many professors are advocating for the cause on the grounds of reducing the endless stream of annoyance from whining students. Advocates for the tool say that students have too much power in the current academic system.

“Students have had their fun with add-drop week and a generous Q-Drop deadline for the past few years,” Cochlan said. “It’s about time we took some power back.”
