Big Event Changes Name to Medium Event

With registration for The Big Event approaching, the Texas A&M University student service organization recently announced the change of its official name to The Medium Event. Due to a significant drop in volunteers in recent years, the national chapters of the one-day service event feel that Texas A&M no longer meets the standards to be deemed “big.”

Chair of social-service junior leadership organization Juniors Accomplishing Wonderful Service (JAWS) Chad Roberts claimed the lack of participation is the result of potential volunteers participating in other service events. “I tried to get everyone excited to do it again this year, but they felt they already did enough service in the Bryan-College Station area for one semester.”

Despite the continuous decline in volunteers, Texas A&M frequently uses the one-day event as an example of the university’s core value of selfless service, and many Aggies still take pride in the work they do during the annual event.

“It really stinks that fewer people are volunteering considering how big our university is, but I still want to participate in order to feel good about myself and put it on my resume,” said Ashley Gupta, staff assistant for the Medium Event.

The organization is unsure how the rebrand will affect the actual 2022 turnout in March but is still determined to make this year’s event the biggest yet.
