Country Singer Morgan Wallen to Launch SBP Candidacy Following Racial Slur Backlash
In a typical year, a Student Body President (SBP) candidate’s racist background is revealed during the February campaign season. However, Morgan Wallen’s use of a racial slur has kickstarted his campaign early for Student Body President at Texas A&M University. Although he had no previous intent to run, Wallen has decided to capitalize on the momentum and continue his career as a country singer and politician at Texas A&M.
“Texas A&M SBP candidates have a history of this kind of thing,” said Maggie Jorges, a representative from Wallen’s management team. “It just made sense to throw our name in the hat.”
Wallen experienced a drastic increase in sales since the video featuring a racial slur went viral and also expects a surge in votes on election day.
Other candidates on the SBP ballot have also faced some recent backlash due to their history of offensive comments. “Are the racist tweets bad? Sure, a few people on Twitter have said so!” said SBP candidate Owen Smithens, “But our social media presence and campaign volunteer numbers are through the roof.”
Like other candidates, Wallen promises to create a more inclusive and accepting Texas A&M campus if elected. When it comes to the Sully statue controversy, Wallen’s campaign team formally declined to comment but followed up with a wink and comment, saying, “I think you know how we feel there.”

Every single night before she goes to bed, Maroon Gloat plans her outfit for the next day. She gets cold easily and needs something to constantly insulate her. She has tried jackets, pullovers, and even shawls, but nothing keeps her warm like coats. One day, she discovered reds and purples looked best on her — specifically maroon. She wears maroon with such confidence that it’s now become her trademark. Rumour has it you can find her driving golf carts during campus tours… there’s even a football game honoring how good it looks on her.
