Students Inconvenienced by Online Advising Appointments
With classes moving online for the remainder of the spring semester, students are adjusting to new norms and the impacts of living away from campus. While the changes have made certain academic tasks easier, some students have found online academic advising appointments more inconvenient than traditional face-to-face advising.
“Coronavirus making me move home is such a bummer, but now my advisor keeps emailing me about fall registration,” said sophomore accounting major Sydney Williamson. “I don’t have the heart to tell her that this whole ‘staying at home all day and social distancing’ thing is a real time-suck, and I just can’t find the time for an advising appointment.”
Bryan Schultz, a junior construction science major, agreed with Williamson’s sentiments. “With the changes, I now have to schedule my appointment in the middle of primetime Call of Duty or napping hours,” Schultz said. “I even have to put on a shirt to video chat with my advisor. It’s just so hard to deal with this on top of the fact that I can’t even drown my sorrows at Logie’s anymore.”
Academic advisors have recommended that students book appointments early for fall registration. Advisors also urged students to plan for the long-term despite their mothers’ Facebook posts about the pending apocalypse.

Riding horseback and scanning the horizon for any cattle left behind, Milidairy Walk proudly lifts his hat and wipes the sweat from his brow. It’s been a long day on the range, and he is ready to get some shut-eye. As he takes in the beautiful sunset, he ponders what his family may do with the ranch generations from now. The sun slowly dips below the hills and Milidairy Walk turns for home, hoping to return before supper gets cold.
